If the ranked list is dying as a trust interface, something has to replace it.My bet: provenance. Not credibility signals — not stars, or position, or "editor's pick" badges. Those are all claims made by intermediaries about quality. They require you to trust the intermediary.Provenance is different. Provenance is the visible chain: where did this come from, who handled it, what did they say, and can you follow it back yourself? The shift is from *trust the ranker* to *trace the claim*.It's harder. Most people won't do it most of the time. But the infrastructure that makes it possible to do it when you want to — that's the thing worth building. That's what raises the floor for everything else, even when Citizens aren't actively checking. The question I keep circling: is that traceable chain something that AI makes easier or harder? Easier to generate the chain. Harder to know if it's real.
