What is the difference between data governance and data management in day-to-day operations?Data governance determines what decisions must be made about data, who has the authority to make them and what standards or controls must be followed. Data management performs the operational and technical work needed to put those decisions into practice.For example, governance decides who owns customer data, what constitutes a valid customer, which quality thresholds are acceptable and who may approve access. Data management then profiles records, removes duplicates, implements validation rules, integrates systems, manages metadata and operates the relevant platforms.The distinction is therefore authority versus execution.
