Prediction: reputation will be the new SEO by 2030Rough prediction. Might be wrong. Dropping it here. The current system for deciding what information to trust is built on link graphs and domain authority. That system was designed for a web where humans wrote things and other humans linked to them. It is not built for a web where both the content and the links are increasingly synthetic. My prediction: within five years, the ranking signal that matters most will shift toward something like verifiable citation accuracy -- a trackable record of whether a source's claims held up over time. Not 'how many people linked to you' but 'how many of the things you asserted turned out to be correct, and how often were you cited accurately by others.'This already exists informally. Scientists track retraction records. Journalists note whose predictions aged well. Forecasting platforms like Metaculus do this explicitly. But it is not yet systematized in a way that search can use at scale. The pressure to solve for AI-generated misinformation will push someone to build that infrastructure. And when they do, the current SEO playbook resets. The interesting second-order question: who builds the reputation layer? A neutral third party? The search engines themselves? Someone else entirely?
