What’s Live in Public Beta (And What We’re Building Next)

Findborg is in Public Beta. That phrase deserves a little unpacking — because “beta” means something specific here, and it’s not a soft apology for an unfinished product.

Public Beta means the Find Engine is open. You can search it right now. You can join The Hive, make posts, vote on listings, and help shape what rises to the top. Businesses can claim TalkTags and start building their presence. The core of what Findborg is — three pillars working together — is live and working.

What Public Beta also means: we’re still building. Deliberately. In public. So you can see exactly where we are.

“What can Findborg actually do right now in public beta?”

What’s Live Right Now

The Find Engine brings three things together on every search:

Web Search — editorial results without ads, paid placements, or sponsored-result sleight of hand. What you see is what earned its way there.

The Hive — community knowledge from real Citizens. When someone’s asked and answered the thing you’re looking for, that surfaces. When nobody has, you can ask. The Hive is not a forum bolted onto a search engine. It’s a first-class pillar of how Findborg works.

Borg — the AI layer. Ask Borg a question and you get a real answer, not a list of links to click through. Use the Workspace tab when you need to actually think something through — research a topic, compare options, build a picture of something complicated. Borg is not a chatbot. It’s the Find Engine’s mind.

Beyond the three pillars, a few things worth knowing are already live:

  • Beams — command shortcuts that let you jump to exactly the kind of result you want without typing full instructions. Type :img to search images. Type :vid for video. Type :news for news. Five Beams Worth Knowing is a good place to start.
  • Ping and Pong — two ways to run searches with different postures. Ping is quick. Pong digs deeper.
  • Tabs — Overview, Breakdown, Workspace, and The Hive. Each one is a different way of looking at the same search. The Workspace tab in particular is worth spending time in if you’ve never opened it.
  • TalkTags — the business subscription layer. Natural language query phrases that help AI systems and real searchers find you. No bidding. No auction. Your ranking is earned through Verity signals, not purchased.

The Verity Standard

Every business listing on Findborg has a Verity score. It starts at 50 — the same for every business, paid or free. From there it moves based on five signals: community votes, engagement, click-through rate, impressions, and Signal Graph activity.

Paid TalkTag tiers unlock better presentation — FAQ panels, sitelinks, video embeds, maps, contact details. They do not unlock a better score. The score is the score. It belongs to the business, not the subscription tier.

We built a mechanism to give paid tiers a ranking bonus. We tested it. We removed it — because giving someone a ranking bonus for paying more is an ad with extra steps. That story is documented if you want to read it.

What’s Being Built

A few things that are nearly there:

Analytics for Signature TalkTag holders — a dashboard showing how your listing performs across the five Verity signals. Visibility into what’s working, not just a score to stare at.

Richer Verity listing pages — the detail view for any TalkTag listing is getting more depth. Searchable FAQs, better signal display, expanded context.

Schema markup — structured data that helps external systems understand Findborg’s content better. Good for the long game.

These aren’t vaporware roadmap promises. They’re items in active development. When they ship, they’ll ship as product posts here, not as press releases.

Why “Public Beta” Instead of Just “Live”

The honest answer: because the community is still small, and what Findborg does gets better as The Hive grows. The more Citizens vote, post, and use the platform, the stronger the signal. The stronger the signal, the better the results. A Find Engine that runs on community knowledge needs the community.

Public Beta is an invitation. Come in when the house is still being arranged. Your presence changes what it becomes.
